Remember the seven cardinal sins? You’re given the serious task of adding a new one to the list — another trait or behaviour you find particularly unacceptable, for whatever reason. What’s sin #8 for you? Why? – Daily Prompt
As well as the other deadly sins (Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Envy, Wrath, Sloth and Pride), I firmly believe that intolerance is the next destructive behaviour. We live in a world that is growing smaller by the day as we become more connected, irregardless of our growing population.
Yet still in many countries it’s illegal to marry the person you love, because they are the same gender as you. People are attacked because of the pigment of their skin, their accent or mother tongue, their choice of faith, their choice of clothing and many other futile excuses.
But why is it that some people are so self-righteous to believe that their opinions are the be-all and end-all and should be imposed on everyone else? And why do we allow our National medias such as newspapers and TV shows to continually fuel this intolerance?
Why can’t we respect one another’s decisions / beliefs / appearances?
Why do we have to poke our noses into other peoples business or choices?
I believe that if it isn’t a social injustice or a breach of someone’s human rights – then that person(s) has the right to live in peace and be who they want to be. If you’re still adamant it’s wrong – tough cookie.
